UV Wastewater Disinfection: High-Capacity Project at 600 L/s

Project Background

A contractor specializing in stormwater and sanitary sewer systems required robust UV disinfection of wastewater after sand and oil separators, with a total design flow of 600 L/s. The UV units needed to fit into underground tanks measuring 3,200 mm in diameter and over 7 m long. Installation was handled by the client’s team in close coordination with our engineers.

Challenges

The initial project documentation underestimated hydraulic requirements, specifying only two 100 L/s UV systems per line—insufficient for the actual flow. The client urgently needed a revised solution.

Space constraints added complexity: the design had to account for pipe orientation, flange positions, cable lengths to control cabinets, and easy maintenance. The client also requested phased delivery to align equipment shipments with construction progress.

Proposed Solution

We quickly revised the design and supplied two types of inline UV sterilizers:

  • UVL-AQUA 15-700 – Capacity up to 440 m³/h, 15 amalgam UV lamps, total power 10,500 W.
  • UVL-AQUA 17-700 – Capacity up to 550 m³/h, 17 germicidal lamps, total power 12,870 W.

In total, eight units were delivered (two 150 L/s and two 100 L/s systems for each line). To simplify installation, we chose a U-shaped configuration with single-axis ports, added mounting hooks, and supplied 10 m cables. Stainless-steel housings were made from AISI 304, with AISI 316 available upon request.

The package included:

  • Outdoor-rated control cabinets (IP55) with dust, moisture, and temperature protection.
  • Automatic cleaning systems and hour counters.
  • Optional flow and UV intensity sensors for performance monitoring.

Phased delivery (2+2 units at 150 L/s, followed by 100 L/s systems) allowed the client to match deliveries with construction schedules. We also provided dimensional drawings, connection diagrams, equipment passports, and quality control support during unloading.

Result

The project was completed in 45 days, ahead of schedule. The UV systems were partially installed and ready for commissioning. The client praised the flexibility, speed, and close cooperation maintained from design through delivery.

Versatility of UVL Solutions
